By order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Juliana de Barros, involved in the January 8 events, was preventively arrested on Wednesday afternoon, the 26th, due to "fear of flight." The housewife is now in a prison in Luziânia (GO).

Despite her 17-year prison sentence, determined by the STF on December 16, 2024, the woman could still appeal while free. To give an idea, the Court has not even considered the motion for clarification filed on January 20 of this year, according to her defense.

"The conclusion of the trial on the merits of this criminal action and the well-founded fear of the defendant fleeing, as has been repeatedly occurring in similar situations in convictions related to January 8, 2023 (...) authorize preventive detention to effectively guarantee the application of criminal law and the conviction decision of this STF," states an excerpt from the arrest warrant obtained by Oeste.

Speaking to this column, Juliana's lawyer, Valquíria Durães, stated that the housewife had been correctly following the restrictive measures, including the use of an electronic ankle monitor.

Who is the January 8 prisoner

Married, Juliana, 34, is the mother of three minors. The youngest daughter, seven years old, depends on Juliana due to cardiovascular problems. The other son, nine years old, has respiratory complications. The oldest son, 17, suffers from depression, aggravated by his mother's arrest and his father's suicide.

"Juliana dedicates herself entirely to the home, exercising her duties with care and responsibility," the lawyer said. "A Christian, she guides her life by the principles of faith, basing her actions on honesty, respect, and solidarity. Her posture is marked by ethics and family values."

Statement from the defense

"We are living in difficult times. Honesty, which should be a pillar of society, seems to have become too heavy a burden for those who insist on following it. While criminals benefit from pardons, sentence reductions, and legal loopholes, good citizens face persecution and censorship simply for expressing themselves.

What was meant to be justice has turned into a game of interests. What was meant to be freedom has become a minefield, where an opinion can cost dearly. It seems we are under the yoke of a system that protects the powerful and punishes those who dare to question."
